Annual Open House Summer Kickoff on the Waterway: Make a Splash!

Do you have a passion for flatwater sports, or, are intrigued to find out if you have an inner talent with an ore or a paddle in your hand? Ever wonder what it would be like to leisurely paddle with your closest friends on a gorgeous summer day, taking in the scenic landscapes from a new perspective?  Saturday, June 28th is the Summer Kickoff on the Waterway and YOU are invited to join us for a day in the sun at the PenFinancial Credit Union Flatwater Community Centre! Starting at 11 am, rowing shells, canoes, kayaks, pedal boats, and stand up paddle boards will be made available to individuals of all ages. Whether you have never been out on the water or are a well versed waterway explorer, all ages and experience levels can have a good time on the waterway.

The Welland Recreational Canal Corporation is excited to be hosting this Annual Open House event in partnership with community organizations such as the South Niagara Canoe Club (SNCC), the Notre Dame Rowing Club (NDRC), the Welland Canoe Rental Program, and the Fearless Females. Toronto 2015 Pan Am activities will also take place and Canadian flags will be given away to those in attendance. Featuring a free barbeque starting at 12:30 pm, free lessons in flatwater sports, free stand up paddle board yoga with Fearless Females, free boat rentals, and many more family fun activities - start your summer off right and make a splash on the recreational waterway!

German senior men’s canoe polo team dedicates gold medal to fallen teammate

Germany nearly won it all on the water after losing so much off of it. Only a 3-2 loss to Great Britain in the men's under-21 final prevented Germany from sweeping all four divisions at the 2018 International Canoe Federation Canoe Polo World Championships in Welland.


  • The 2013 Junior and U23 champs was the most wonderful experience for us in South Africa. Although our kayak community is relatively small, we are an intense group of loyal supporters. Following the build-up on your website as well as your Facebook and the photos on WIFC Facebook page was the highlight of my day. Not only mine but many of us shared links from early morning. Thanks for the effort and a huge congratulations on your achievement. The live streaming gave many of us goose bumps and the occasional lump in the throat. I checked many comments by parents all over the globe, don`t worry, we are all the same, from Japan, Canada, Africa. Thanks for sharing the wonderful experience. Today I could watch my son`s semi-final on Youtube, tonight we will watch it again and every day I will check Youtube for new uploads.
