Welland International Flatwater Centre Takes Part in the Francophone Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AFMO) Annual Conference

The Association of Francophone Municipalities of Ontario, in partnership with the City of Welland, hosts its 25th annual conference from September 17 - 19.

The theme for this benchmark Conference is « Harvesting Success for 25 Years » The specialized workshops and panels will revolve around topics that have helped define Ontario’s 400 years of Francophone history. Various topics will highlight the importance of producing and consuming local food, protecting drinking water, planning business succession, reusing recycled products, establishing international partnerships, and creating a North-American Francophile spectrum.

Conference members and delegates will have the opportunity of enjoying astute guest speakers who are leaders on the socioeconomic development and political legislative fronts, such as the Honourable Madeleine Meilleur, Minister Responsible for Francophone Affairs and Minister of the Attorney General of Ontario, and the Honourable Ted McMeekin, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing of Ontario.

The Welland International Flatwater Centre is proud to take part in the festivities on Wednesday, September 17th. At 4 pm, a Food Tasting Event will take place, inviting individuals to meet business and organizations from Welland and its surroundings and taste local products. Welland International Flawater Centre Executive Director, Stephen Fischer will be providing a personal tour and presentation showcasing the facility and providing a glimpse of the many world-class and community events scheduled in the coming years on the waterway. A special presentation will be made by Louise Gauvrea, Senior Manager of Official Languages of the Toronto 2015 Pan Am / Pan American Games, the Welland International Flatwater Centre is the venue for canoe/ kayak sprint. At 6 pm, a bistro style dinner will be featured, where guests will enjoy the talented pianist, Frank Krahn. Tickets are available at the Conference Registration and at the reception.

German senior men’s canoe polo team dedicates gold medal to fallen teammate

Germany nearly won it all on the water after losing so much off of it. Only a 3-2 loss to Great Britain in the men's under-21 final prevented Germany from sweeping all four divisions at the 2018 International Canoe Federation Canoe Polo World Championships in Welland.


  • The 2013 Junior and U23 champs was the most wonderful experience for us in South Africa. Although our kayak community is relatively small, we are an intense group of loyal supporters. Following the build-up on your website as well as your Facebook and the photos on WIFC Facebook page was the highlight of my day. Not only mine but many of us shared links from early morning. Thanks for the effort and a huge congratulations on your achievement. The live streaming gave many of us goose bumps and the occasional lump in the throat. I checked many comments by parents all over the globe, don`t worry, we are all the same, from Japan, Canada, Africa. Thanks for sharing the wonderful experience. Today I could watch my son`s semi-final on Youtube, tonight we will watch it again and every day I will check Youtube for new uploads.
