This past flatwater season, over 30 events were successfully hosted on the Welland’s Recreational Waterway at the Welland International Flatwater Centre North and South Courses. Hosting over 11, 000 participants throughout the season was no small feat and there are many individuals who deserve to be recognized for working hard and for making each event a success.
As part of the Welland International Flatwater Centre legacy, stipends are awarded to community groups to recognize volunteer contributions. With approximately 85 dedicated volunteers this year, each individual is able to select what community organization will benefit from their commitment.
Since 2009, the Welland Recreational Canal Corporation has provided volunteer honourariums to community organizations and clubs and the organization is pleased to announce that with the conclusion of the 2014 season, they have surpassed the $100,000 mark. To date, the WRCC has assisted 40 organizations with $112,000 in honourariums. A photo opportunity will be available with three community organizations that have benefitted from the community legacy program at the Welland International Flatwater Centre on Friday, October 3rd at 9:30 am.
