The public is encouraged to leave their mark on the Pan Am Community Canoe through an easy paint-by-numbers station that will be set up at the Seaway Mall in a storefront, called the Community Project Shop.
Located across from Sportchek, the Welland Recreational Canal Corporation (WRCC) is sharing the store with the Black Lantern Experience to showcase community projects in the City of Welland. “The Community Project Shop is a great opportunity for the public to get a glimpse of some of the exciting initiatives that are happening in the City of Welland," expresses Project Manager Jane Thompson. “They can even participate themselves by putting their mark on the Pan Am Community Canoe, a one-of-a-kind piece of art, which echoes the Peoples Games emphasis of the Toronto 2015 Pan Am / Parapan American Games."
Other canoes from the Canoe Art Project fleet are dispersed in front of the store. The WRCC invites individuals to learn more about its not-for-profit organization through its displayed infographics. These informational pieces outline the development of the Welland Recreational Waterway and Canal Lands for the benefit of the community since the WRCC took an active role in its management. In addition, for the first time, the Welland Canoe Rental Program 2015 season memberships are available for purchase in time for the holiday season.
